Minnesauke Elementary School celebrated Autism Awareness Month throughout April. Students did announcements in the morning to educate their peers about autism, the building held a “Light It Up Blue” spirit week, and all classes attended an autism awareness assembly hosted by Minnesauke’s special education staff. The month ended with a schoolwide autism walk. Students made signs and walked around the bus circle to celebrate Autism Awareness Month and promote inclusivity.

The drama club at Minnesauke Elementary School put on a wonderful production of “The Music Man.” The cast and crew, made up of fourth, fifth and sixth graders, told the story of Harold Hill and his plan to con the people of River City into believing he can organize a band. Student actors performed in front of a live audience over the course of two days.

Pre-K Students Light up for Learning

Pre-K students at Minnesauke Elementary School are lighting up about learning! Ms. O’Boyle’s class recently learned about circuits and the basics of electricity with a hands-on activity.

Students first worked together to play a full-body circuit game to explore the flow of power. They then used two alligator clips, a battery and batter holder, and a lightbulb to discover how a working circuit made the lightbulb illuminate. They were excited to “hold the power” and make the lights turn on, on their own.

The Minnesauke Elementary School PTA hosted the building’s first STEAM Fair on March 14. Students had the opportunity to create and present science, technology, engineering, art and math projects, as well as projects showcasing women in STEAM, in a non-competitive atmosphere.

Mad Science also provided an interactive experience where students participated in several science experiments and made slime. All students that contributed projects to the event were recognized in school and given a participation certificate. It was a wonderful evening for the Minnesauke Elementary School community!
